Dear CHS Employees, Families and Friends,
Today marks a significant milestone in our company’s history. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am writing to announce that Kevin Leahy has decided to retire as Chief Executive Officer effective July 17, 2026 following 26 years of visionary and caring leadership.
It is nearly impossible to summarize the impact Kevin has had on our organization since joining us in 2000. Under his guidance, we have grown from just a few programs to the industry leader we are today. We are deeply grateful for his unwavering commitment, which has built the strong foundation upon which we all stand.
As we look to the future, the Board has conducted a thoughtful and deliberate succession process. We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Matt Cooney, currently our Vice President of Programs, as our next Chief Executive Officer.
Matt has been a pivotal member of our leadership team, consistently demonstrating the strategic insight and cultural stewardship required to lead us into our next chapter. His deep understanding of our work (Matt was a direct support professional early in his career), our mission and values and the people we serve makes him the ideal leader to continue our strong momentum and growth.
This transition comes at a time of immense strength for our company. The Board supports Matt and his team to build upon our legacy and pursue new and exciting opportunities. Over the coming weeks, Kevin and Matt will work closely together to ensure a smooth and highly stable handover.
Please join the Board in thanking Kevin for his incredible service to CHS and in congratulating Matt on this well-deserved appointment. Our best days are ahead of us.
Sincerely,
Helen Cushman
Chairperson of the Board of Directors
